Horror Film Mood Board.

Horror Film Mood Board.

When creating my mood board, I thought about many things which are associated with horror films and why they scare us. All of the images are dark colours- black, grey, deep red, because they create a sombre mood. I found images which represent these things:

Darkness. Many horror films are set in the dark which the audience finds scary because of what or who could be hiding there. The image of the girl looking in through the window in darkness represents that anything could be hiding in the dark.

Scary places. Horror films are full of scary places such as old houses and graveyards which are dark places where spine-chilling things could be hiding.

Lightning. Many people are afraid of lightning- sudden flashes of light that can kill. Flashing lights create a startle response which is an important part of a horror film. The lightning above the old, dark house contributes to the fact that it could be haunted or dangerous.

Crawling animals. Spiders, bugs and snakes can be terrifying in a horror film when they touch the skin in the darkness- who knows what they could be? The woman's eyelashes are spiders which may terrify the audience.

Disfigurement. Many horror films contain disfigured villains- criminals, monsters or killers. The audience reacts with fear to their disfigured face. The image of the man with half a disfigured face makes him look like an enemy or a villain.
